Winter's Tale- Symbolism of Leontes' getting rid of the baby

Leontes' disposing the baby symbolises his disregard for life and how bastard children were viewed in the days of Shakespeare. Leontes hated the child so much that he cared less about it being a life than he did about the baby not being his child and yet the child of his childhood and best friend Polixenes and his own dear queen.
